Contestants from Coppell, Shiner and Laredo took the top honors for videos showing why they love their Texas Homes.
The winners of the My Texas Home video contest were officially announced on Saturday, September 6 at the Texas Association of REALTORS® Conference in San Antonio. The winner of the contest received $5,000, second place winner received $2,000 and third place $500.
TREPAC Chairman, Christine Seidel said, “We were blown away by the creativity and diversity of the submissions we received. The My Texas Home video contest winners truly captured the sense of pride that comes with living in Texas and are a testament to the homes, families and communities that make up our great state.”
Nichole Meyer of Coppell won first place and was awarded the grand prize of $5,000. Growing up in Sweden, Meyer became a Texas resident four years ago when her father accepted a job transfer to the Lone Star State. She is a first-year art and film student at the University of Texas at Arlington and plans to use the $5,000 to help pay for her college tuition.
“I couldn’t believe it when I won,” said Meyer. “I needed to find a way to help pay for college, but I didn’t want to apply for a scholarship. I wanted to earn the money. I love my home, so this was a perfect fit for me.”
Second place winner Christopher Kaspar won for the story of their Shiner, Texas home, which once belonged to Christopher’s great-grandfather. Fifth generation Texans, the Kaspar family and their family business, Kaspar Companies, have been in Shiner for 116 years.
“My wife, Cierra, and I decided to submit a video because we felt like we had such a special story, rooted in small-town, Texas culture, and we were excited about our new home,” described Kaspar.
The third place prize was awarded to Johnny Vidaurri of Laredo. Vidaurri moved to Laredo with his mom and two brothers 20 years ago to be closer to family in Mexico. His video highlights the sense of community in Laredo “where people know who you are and there is a connection”.
“Laredo fits me. It’s not too big and not too small. It’s just right for me,” added Vidaurri. “I am so honored to be selected as one of the top three.”
Winners were selected through a combination of panel judging and online voting throughout July. To view the winning entries and all of the My Texas Home video submissions, visit My Texas Home.org.
